Bean bag or foam furniture will serve you well. The following are features to look for in a bean bag chair or other foam furniture for your college dorm room:

• Washable Covers - Can the cover be removed for washing without removing the filling? Being able to launder the outside cover will significantly increase the useable life of your dorm furniture.
  
  
• Type of Filler - You have two choices: polystyrene beads or urethane foam fill. Polystyrene beads are lighter in weight but are like packing peanuts and will flatten down, break down and leak out with use and age. Urethane foam fill is not only more supportive, but it will never break down. Urethane foam is the same material that is used in quality sofa cushions.

• Cost of Replacement Fill - If you choose the polystyrene beads, you will need to factor in the cost of replacement fill, because polystyrene beads are likely to last just two semesters.
